Veterinary Behaviour Counselling
At Happy Healthy Hounds, my mission is to help you to understand your dogs' needs better, and to allow you and your canine companions to live happier lives together. I can come to your home and spend time with you and your dog, enabling me to identify any underlying health issues, and to go through a detailed history of your lives together. Through simple positive training techniques, deep understanding of canine psychology and if needed, supplements and medication, I can empower you both for a calmer, happier future together.
About Me

Hi! I am Samantha McLoughlin, a Vet of 28 years, owner of dogs, cats, sheep and horses over many years, and mum of four children. I have loved being a vet for a long time, interspersed with mothering, and more recently studying for my diploma in Canine behaviour - something I have always been fascinated by. My veterinary work has given me great experience of dealing with dogs of all breeds, ages and temperaments, and my behavioural diploma has given me even more insights into helping dogs with behavioural needs.
I have now created Happy Healthy Hounds, where I specialise in taking time to observe your dog's behaviour, and with a lot of background knowledge, identifying any underlying health issues which may be contributing to this behaviour. This enables me to provide advice, medication as necessary, and professional positive reinforcement training to help with your dog's individual needs. I believe in creating harmonious relationships between you and your dog, ensuring a happier and calmer life for you both.

Thanks so much for all your help yesterday Sam, and for the behavioural advice notes. I started putting your advice into practice first thing this morning and Koda loved it!! There were loads of dogs around which she struggles with, but she coped reasonably well from a distance! I then took her to work and a very tall man came in and she didn't bark at all! She looked startled but she was quiet, so it's a good start! I am very grateful for your help.

I can't thank Sam enough. Her expertise and understanding of canine behaviour has truly transformed my lab, Josie. From the very first session she's made both Josie and me feel comfortable and confident when out and about. Sam takes the time to understand the root of the behaviour issues and provides clear, practical solutions that actually work. We've been on walks together and have also been out with some friendly collies, which is one of the breeds Josie reacts to. Josie is now much calmer and I have learned so much about how to communicate better with her. If you're looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated dog behaviourist, look no further!

Hey Sam, thank you very much for your help with Lenny and Vinnie. We are all as a family following your advice and it is helping a lot to make the boys a calmer pair, and to get on together better, especially when visitors come over! I think the calming chews do help too. We will keep on practising! Thanks so much.
